Breast augmentation

To the topic selection

  • How can breasts be enlarged?

Breasts can be enlarged using fat, implants or hyaluronic acid. The hyaluronic acid dissolves completely after a while, implants and fat are long-lasting and should remain in the body for life. The advantage of breast enlargement using fat is certainly that fat is taken from parts of the body where the woman wants to get rid of it and then, after the fat has been processed, can be applied to the breast. The disadvantage of this method is that this type of breast enlargement has not been used in plastic surgery for very long. Long-term results over 10-20 years are therefore not yet available. These long-term results are available with silicone implants. Silicone implants have been used since around 1960.

  • What implants are there?

Breast implants are used for breast enlargement, which differ in shape, size, consistency and surface finish. All implants consist of a shell made of elastic, solid silicone and a silicone gel filling. In addition to implants with silicone gel filling, there are also implants with a saline solution filling. These implants were manufactured and used as an alternative during the US silicone moratorium (legal requirement not to use silicone) from 1992 to 2006. After scientific core studies required by the approval authorities, silicone implants were approved again in 2006.

  • Which size fits me?

The implant must fit the body. It must not be too wide or too high. The sizes of the implants are therefore limited, but the patient can choose freely within the range of length and size. We will advise you until you have found the implant that is right for you. There are also teardrop-shaped (anatomical) and round implants. The anatomical ones are based on the natural shape of the breast. For some time now, the company Motiva has been producing so-called Ergonomix implants. These implants appear as a round implant when lying down, but when standing they become an anatomical shape. They therefore perfectly replicate the natural breast, which is round when lying down and has a natural teardrop shape when standing.

  • How long do the implants last?

Good implants can remain in the body for life. We recommend an annual check-up.

  • How are the implants positioned?

Implants are placed on or under the muscle. In Germany, most implants are placed under the muscle. The advantage of this is that the implant is less visible, usually not palpable and is also less likely to feel cold. The less of the patient's own tissue, the better the position of the implant under the muscle.

  • Is a rupture possible?

Very, very rarely does the implant rupture.

  • Do implants need to be replaced?

If complications arise, the implants must be replaced. Early complications include infections, for example. Later complications include capsular fibrosis, for example.

  • When can I exercise again? Restricted mobility, for how long?

You can start exercising again after 6 weeks. Movement will be restricted for 1-2 weeks.

  • Where are the scars?

We choose an access in the inframammary fold, which means that you have a scar in the fold from the breast to the upper abdomen. Unlike some other surgeons, we do not go over the areola to insert implants, as the rate of capsular fibrosis is significantly higher when access is via the areola than when access is chosen in the inframammary fold.

  • How long does the pain last?

You should be pain-free in the hospital. However, the pressure from the implants will remain for a few days.

  • Can I breastfeed with breast implants?

Yes, breastfeeding with breast implants is possible without any restrictions.

  • How long is the inpatient stay?

We recommend that you stay with us overnight. You are in good hands in our clinic. You will receive painkillers, questions will be answered immediately, so there will be no uncertainty about whether something is normal or not.

  • Can breast implants cause cancer?

There is a tumor called ALCL - Anaplastic Large Cell Lymphoma - that occurs with breast implants.

breast reduction

To the topic selection

  • When is a breast too big?

This is a difficult question to answer. Do you have pain in your shoulders, tension in your shoulder and neck, or constriction lines on your shoulder caused by your bra straps?

  • When should breast reduction be considered?

If you are suffering from breast problems, are in pain and are socially isolating, it makes sense to seek surgery. Please contact us with confidence.

  • What scars are visible afterwards?

A scar remains visible around the areola and at least one straight cut down to the inframammary fold. To put it simply, we use the I technique for breast reduction. This means that the skin is cut around the areola and then again vertically down to the inframammary fold. Functional impairment, i.e. the ability to breastfeed, may occur after the operation.

  • Do health insurance companies pay for the operation?

Yes, in exceptional cases of very large breasts, the health insurance company will cover the costs of the operation.

  • When can I exercise again?

You can resume physical activity approximately 6 weeks after breast reduction surgery.

  • How long will I be unable to work?

    About 1 week.

  • How long does the operation take?

A breast reduction operation takes approximately 3 hours.

  • Is general anesthesia necessary?

    Yes, general anesthesia is necessary.

  • Do you need painkillers after the operation?

The operation is relatively painless. Painkillers are usually only necessary for the first three days after the operation.

  • Is an inpatient stay necessary?

We recommend that you spend one night with us as an inpatient. You are in good hands in our clinic. You will receive painkillers, questions will be answered immediately, so there will be no uncertainty about whether something is normal or not.

  • Do I need to wear a supportive corset after the operation?

Yes. You will need to wear a special corset for 6 weeks after the operation. You can get one from us before the operation.

  • Can complications occur?

Complications after surgery are rare. For example, bleeding and problems with wound healing can occur, and very rarely there can be partial or complete loss of the nipples. We will discuss all possible complications that can occur after a reduction with you in detail in a consultation before the operation.

  • Can the shape change again after the operation?

After surgery, the breast is subject to normal signs of aging. This means that the shape may also change.

  • What preliminary examinations are necessary?

If you have decided to have a tummy tuck in our practice in Berlin, you will have another final consultation with your surgeon. All questions will be answered again here. There will also be a discussion with the anesthesiologist about anesthesia. Laboratory tests or further diagnostic tests are only necessary if corresponding illnesses are present.

  • Do I have to wear compression garments?

To achieve optimal results, we recommend wearing a compression garment day and night for 6 weeks.

  • When can I shower, bathe or go to the sauna again?

You can shower again 48 hours after the drains have been removed. We will give you special wound plasters (Steristrips®) that you can use when showering. These plasters are then simply blow-dried dry. Bathing and saunas are not recommended for 6 weeks, as the heat will unnecessarily prolong the swelling.

  • How long does the operation take?

A tummy tuck with liposuction and tightening of the deep abdominal wall (fascial doubling) takes about 2 1/2 to 3 hours.

  • Is it an outpatient procedure or do I have to stay in the hospital? Will the operation be performed under anesthesia?

Due to the relatively large procedure, we recommend 1-2 nights in the clinic. Abdominoplasty is always performed under general anesthesia.

  • Will I get drains?

To avoid wound fluid accumulation (seroma), we usually insert two drains, which are removed on the first or second day after the operation.

  • When can I exercise again?

After 6 weeks, you can resume sporting activities. You should only start special abdominal exercises around 8 weeks after a tummy tuck.

  • When are the stitches removed and is scar care useful?

We remove the stitches from the stomach after about 14 days, after which you can begin to care for the scar using special scar gels or scar plasters. We would be happy to advise you on the best products.

  • How long is the scar visible?

The scar resulting from the incision is theoretically visible forever, as scars as such do not disappear completely. Over time, however, the scar becomes so soft and light that it is practically invisible. Especially in the first few weeks after the operation, the scar is often still red, sometimes slightly raised, painful or itchy. Please feel free to contact us; we can help you with scar care using high-quality products.

  • Am I in severe pain?

Pain is to be expected after a major operation. However, this is moderate and is described by most patients as a feeling of tension. We will of course provide you with painkillers. However, you should take it easy for the first few weeks, as this is the best way for the wounds to heal. You do not have to "stay in bed", but you should avoid physical exertion.

  • When can I expect the final result?

You will notice a significant improvement in your silhouette and body shape shortly after the operation. The swelling and bruising (hematomas) caused by the operation will disappear completely within the first 3 weeks. Residual swelling can sometimes be seen for up to 3 months. The final result will be visible after around 6 months, by which time the scars will also usually be soft and pale.

Gynecomastia/Male breasts

To the topic selection

  • What preliminary examinations are necessary?

If you have decided to have surgical treatment of the male breast in Berlin with Wieners and Pantlen, there will be another, final consultation with your surgeon. All questions will be answered again here. There will also be a discussion with the anesthesiologist about anesthesia. Laboratory tests or further diagnostic tests are only necessary if corresponding diseases are present.

  • Will the costs be covered by statutory or private health insurance?

That depends on the findings. If there is real gynecomastia (glandular tissue), the health insurance companies will cover the removal of the glandular tissue. A corresponding application for reimbursement must be submitted in advance and includes a specialist medical report from a plastic surgeon (we are happy to help you with this) including photo documentation, an endocrinological examination (hormone examination by the urologist) and an ultrasound examination of the breast (to determine whether there is real glandular tissue or just fatty tissue).

  • Do I have to wear compression garments?

To achieve optimal results, we recommend wearing a compression corset (bolero jacket) day and night for 6 weeks.

Removal of the male breast with liposuction takes about 1 1/2 hours.

  • Is it an outpatient procedure or do I have to stay in the hospital? Will the operation be performed under anesthesia?

For smaller findings, the operation can be performed on an outpatient basis. If an additional breast lift is necessary, a short inpatient stay is recommended. The operation is usually carried out under general anesthesia, but pure liposuction for so-called lipomatous gynecomastia is carried out under local anesthesia.

  • Will I get drains?

Drainage is only necessary in cases of severe findings with additional tightening of the skin.

  • When can I exercise again?

Sports activities are possible again after 6 weeks. Special chest training should not begin until about 8 weeks after the operation.

  • When are the stitches removed and is scar care useful?

We remove the stitches from the nipple after about 14 days. After that, you can start caring for the scar using special scar gels or scar plasters. We would be happy to advise you on the best products.

  • How long is the scar visible?

The scar resulting from the incision is theoretically visible forever, as scars as such do not disappear completely. Over time, however, the scar becomes so delicate and light that it is almost invisible. Especially in the first few weeks after the operation, the scar is often still red, sometimes a little raised, painful or itchy. Please feel free to talk to us; we can help you with scar care using good products. As the incision during gynecomastia surgery is made directly on the edge of the areola, the scar is well concealed and is usually almost invisible later on.

  • What preliminary examinations are necessary?

If you have decided to have your upper arms lifted at Wieners and Pantlen in Berlin, you will have another final consultation with your surgeon. All questions will be answered again. There will also be a discussion with the anesthesiologist about anesthesia. Laboratory tests or further diagnostic tests are only necessary if corresponding illnesses are present.

  • Will the costs be covered by statutory or private health insurance?

Since a "drooping, flabby" upper arm is never considered pathological, the costs are not covered by the insurance company. It is an aesthetic "problem" and therefore always a self-paying service.

  • Do I have to wear compression garments?

To achieve optimal results, we recommend wearing a compression sleeve day and night for 6 weeks.

An upper arm lift (brachioplasty) takes about 1 ½ to 2 hours.

  • Is it an outpatient procedure or do I have to stay in the hospital? Will the operation be performed under anesthesia?

The procedure can be performed on an outpatient basis and is usually carried out under general anesthesia.

  • When are the stitches removed and is scar care useful?

We remove the stitches from the arms after about 14 days, after which you can begin to care for the scars using special scar gels or scar plasters. We would be happy to advise you on the best products.

  • How long is the scar visible?

The scar resulting from the incision is theoretically visible forever, as scars as such do not disappear completely. Thanks to our special incision, the scar is so well hidden on the inside of the upper arm that it is barely visible. Over time, the scar becomes so delicate and light that it is almost invisible. Especially in the first few weeks after the operation, the scar is often still red, sometimes slightly raised, painful or itchy. Please feel free to contact us, we can help you with scar care using good products.

  • When can I expect the final result?

You will notice a significant improvement in your upper arm silhouette and body shape shortly after the operation. The swelling and bruising (hematomas) caused by the operation will completely disappear within the first 3 weeks, and residual swelling can sometimes be seen for up to 3 months. The final result will be visible after around 6 months, by which time the scars will also usually be soft and pale.

upper eyelid lift

To the topic selection

  • Will the costs be covered by statutory or private health insurance?

Usually not, as it is not a medically necessary operation. In rare cases, when the excess skin hangs over the eyelash line and thus restricts the field of vision, the procedure can be medically necessary and can be paid for by the health insurance companies. An ophthalmological certificate with a visual field measurement is always required for the costs to be covered.

  • Is the eyelid correction performed under local anesthesia, or can I also have anesthesia?

Theoretically, upper eyelid correction can also be performed under general anesthesia. However, the effort involved is disproportionate to the actual operation. We perform around 99% of upper eyelid lifts under local anesthesia. We are happy to give you sedative drops before the operation.

  • How long does the operation take?

A droopy eyelid correction at Wieners and Pantlen in Berlin usually takes 45 to 60 minutes. Afterwards, you will stay with us in the practice for about 2 hours.

  • When can I wash my face or hair again?

You can wash your face immediately after the operation, but avoid your eyes. You can wash your hair the following day.

  • Do the eyelids become very blue? How long do the bruises last?

As a result of the operation, you will get more or less pronounced bruising. This will also appear on the lower eyelids, even though no surgery was performed there. This is due to gravity, the bruising will sink from the upper eyelid to the lower eyelid.

  • Will I be able to see after the operation or will my eyes be blindfolded?

The delicate suture is covered with a very thin plaster (Steristrip®). This remains on the scar for 1 week and is then removed with the thread.

  • How long do I have to cool?

In the best case, more or less the entire time for the first 24 hours.

  • How long is the scar visible?

The scar resulting from the incision is theoretically visible forever, as scars as such do not disappear completely. However, the scars on the upper eyelids in particular are so delicate and inconspicuous that they are barely noticeable after just a few weeks. In addition, the scar lies exactly in the eyelid crease and is therefore not visible at all when the eye is open.

  • When can I expect the final result?

Immediately after the operation, you will see that the excess skin on your upper eyelid has disappeared. The swelling and bruising (hematomas) caused by the operation will subside within the first week.

Lower eyelid lift & tear sack removal

To the topic selection

  • Is the lower eyelid blepharoplasty performed under local anesthesia, or can I also have anesthesia?

Theoretically, lower eyelid correction can also be performed under local anesthesia. However, these operations are usually far more complex than "just" removing a little skin. Fat tissue is redistributed, the large circular muscle of the eye is tightened, and a canthopexy is almost always performed, i.e. the suspension of the eyelid edge, in order to prevent the lower eyelid from sagging later on (ectropion, "drooping lower eyelid").

  • How long does the operation take?

A lower eyelid lift at Wieners and Pantlen in Berlin usually takes 60 – 90 minutes. If additional procedures are required, the operation time is extended.

  • How are bags under the eyes removed?

If there are pronounced bags under the eyes - these are fatty tissue in front of the eyes - these are often removed via an incision in the inner conjunctiva of the lower eyelid - without visible external scars. This technique is called transconjunctival blepharoplasty.

  • When can I wash my face or hair again?

You can wash your face immediately after the operation, but avoid your eyes. You can wash your hair the following day.

  • Do the eyelids become very blue? How long do the bruises last?

As a result of the operation, you will experience more or less pronounced bruising. This will be more pronounced on the lower eyelids than on the upper eyelids. The bruising can usually be easily removed with makeup after 1 week and will disappear after about 14 days.

  • Will I be able to see after the operation or will my eyes be blindfolded?

The delicate suture is covered with a very thin plaster (Steristrip®). This remains on the scar for 1 week and is then removed with the thread. Cooling compresses are placed on the eyes. You can remove these at any time.

  • How long do I have to cool?

Ideally, more or less the entire time for the first 24 hours. After that, basically as needed, as is comfortable for you.

  • How long is the scar visible?

The scar resulting from the incision is theoretically visible forever, as scars as such do not disappear completely. However, the scars on the lower eyelids in particular are so delicate and inconspicuous that they are barely visible after just a few weeks. In addition, the scar lies directly below the eyelash line and is therefore well concealed by it.

  • When can I expect the final result?

Immediately after the operation, you will see that your excess skin and bags under your eyes have disappeared. The swelling and bruising (hematomas) caused by the operation will subside within the first week.

  • When does a facelift make sense?

"I can't even recognize myself in the mirror anymore."

  • What is the difference between a facelift and a minilift?

With a mini lift, also known as a weekend lift or soft lift, only the skin is lifted and not the deeper muscle layers. The tightening is achieved solely by pulling on the skin.

  • Can other procedures such as eyelid surgery, forehead lift or lip lift be performed at the same time?

Yes. Very often, the signs of aging are not only found in the middle of the face, but also on the neck, forehead, eyes and lips. It is important that a detailed analysis of the face is carried out before the operation in order to determine what exactly is bothering the patient.

  • How long does a facelift take?

A facelift alone without other combination operations such as neck lift and/or forehead lift and/or eyelid lift and/or lip lift takes 2-4 hours.

  • Will I stay in the hospital after the operation and if so, for how long?

Hospitalization is necessary for 1 to 2 days.

  • How long do I have to wear a bandage?

After the operation, we apply a cushioning bandage. This is removed the following day. The hair is then washed with a disinfectant shampoo. After that, no bandage is necessary.

  • When will I be able to socialize again?

After 2 weeks, the swelling and bruising are usually barely visible, so you can go back to work. You may still need to cover them with makeup.

  • What surgical preparations are necessary?

A blood test is necessary before the operation. We will also give you a special shampoo to wash your hair and a list of homeopathic medicines that we recommend taking before and after the operation.

  • When can I expect the final result?

Immediately after the operation, you will see that your excess skin and bags under your eyes have disappeared. The swelling and bruising (hematomas) caused by the operation will subside within the first week.

  • What is a thread lift?

The thread lift is a method of facial rejuvenation. As a minimally invasive procedure, the thread lift can be performed without surgery under local anesthesia. With the help of the finest needles, PDO threads are drawn into the skin like a net. PDO (polydioxanone) is an absorbable (=dissolvable) material that has been used as surgical suture material for many years. The threads inserted stimulate collagen neosynthesis and thus lead to smoothing and tightening of the skin. Sagging skin areas (e.g. cheeks, eyebrows, nasolabial folds) can be treated with special barbed threads (BARB threads). These have an additional mechanical lifting effect thanks to the finest hooks.

  • How long does a thread lift take?

The thread lift treatment takes between 30 and 60 minutes, depending on the effort involved and the region to be treated.

  • Is a thread lift painful?

Before the thread lift treatment, we apply a pain-relieving ointment. A local anesthetic is injected into the area of the puncture site, which also relieves the pain.

  • When does a thread lift make sense?

If the signs of aging are not yet clearly visible, but only slightly to moderately visible, a thread lift, which is often used in combination with hyaluronic acid, medical needling and radio frequency therapy, can bring back the youthful appearance.

  • How long does a thread lift last?

The result lasts up to 2 years and the procedure can be repeated without any problems.

  • How expensive is the treatment?

Expect costs starting at €250.00. The cost of a thread lift depends on the amount and type of threads used. We would be happy to advise you personally in our live chat.

  • Are there any risks associated with the treatment?

Bruising and swelling may occur in the treated area. The area may be painful for a short time and there may be indentations in the skin caused by the barbs of the BARB threads. These are usually no longer visible after 1 week.

  • When will I be able to socialize again?

You can go out in public again immediately. You may need to cover it up with makeup. We advise patients who are in public to have the treatment done on a Friday. By the following Monday, most of the visual effects of the treatment will no longer be visible.
