Inverted nipples are usually caused by a congenital shortening of the milk duct system. They generally do not pose a health risk and the ability to breastfeed is often maintained. The desire for correction is therefore predominantly of an aesthetic nature.



The treatment involves making small incisions at the base of the nipple, severing the milk ducts to permanently raise the nipple. Visible scars are not usually expected, but there may be a change in sensitivity.
